How We Give Our Puppies a Head Start

At Silverton Doodles, we believe raising a confident, well-adjusted puppy starts early—and we mean really early. That’s why we use Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) with every litter we raise.
If you’re researching responsible breeders or looking for a puppy that’s had a head start on life, read on—this is something that sets our pups apart.
What is Early Neurological Stimulation?
ENS is a set of simple daily exercises done with puppies from 3 to 16 days old—a critical time when their brains and bodies are rapidly developing. This training was first introduced as part of the U.S. military’s Bio Sensor program, which later became known as the “Super Dog” program. You can read more about the science behind it in this article by the AKC. This method includes five quick steps:
-
Tactile stimulation (tickling between the toes)
-
Holding the puppy upright
-
Holding the puppy with their head down
-
Laying the puppy on their back
-
Brief contact with a cool surface
These are tiny, controlled stressors—but they make a huge impact over time
Why Implicate This Program?
Here’s where this program is essential: it helps shape healthier, more adaptable dogs. Studies and breeder experience alike show benefits like:
-
Improved brain development
-
Better heart function
-
Stronger immune systems
-
Easier handling of stress or new situations
-
Increased trainability and focus
For families, that often looks like a puppy who adjusts easily to crate training, vet visits, car rides, and busy households.
A Better Start Means a Smoother Transition
We want every puppy we raise to feel confident and secure when they go to their new homes. This training is just one piece of our early socialization, but it’s a big one. It helps us raise Mini Aussiedoodle and Bernedoodle puppies that aren’t just cute—but emotionally ready for life with their forever family.
